Summer Birthday & BLOG CANDY!!!

"Steven, let's do something fun, cheerful, cool and relaxing for your summer birthday?!" Oh yeah!!! Aren't summer birthday's fun??? There are so many options for kids when your birthday is in the summer!! My poor Emily, who's birthday is towards the end of November, had to have a pinata out in the snow one year! LOL Of course... it WAS her FIRST birthday and we wanted it to be big!! But trust me, we haven't done it since! LOL I always feel so bad for her when she wants to go to a park or do some "outdoor activity" for her birthday. Chances are... here in Iowa... it will be snowing! So, Steven is the lucky kid... with a birthday in June!

Today I wanted to share a card I made as a birthday card for someone who may have a birthday in the summer.

I wanted it to be "simple", clean and not to cluttered with embellishments and such. I took my yellow card stock and basically started applying various BRIGHT colors of ribbon. My image is from Gina K's, "Kindred Spirits" line called, "Summer Fun". I LOVE this stamp. It reminds me so much of my kids when they were younger and NOTHING was more fun than running thru the water sprinkler. I think they even preferred it over the pool.. given that when they were small all they got was a plastic 1 footer that probably was about 6' in circumference. LOL Can't be to careful! But... in the sprinkler... you can run and jump and get wet and not really be to confined!

I did a small amount of sponging on the grass portion and for the "sky/clouds" I simply used the pointed end of my Momento's Bly Sky Dew Drop pad and swiped it across leaving some areas white.

On the inside, which I didn't photograph I simply lined it with bright colored striped DP and a Nestability tag shape in yellow so I could add the Happy Birthday. Then.... I went to Melanie Muenchinger's set, "Jumping for Joy" and grabbed those beach balls and used them as embellishments on a couple corners! You know I LOVE mixing up my sets!! I originally colored the balls with my Copics and covered them in Crystal Lacquer but later saw that the color was running and they just didn't look to "neat" so I redid them and just colored them with the Copics and popped them up off the page with some Pop Dots. Can't having my beach balls look like they came from the Dollar store now can I? Hee Hee

SPEAKING OF BIRTHDAYS.... MY birthday is a summer birthday!! THAT IS COOL FOR YOU!!! You want to know why????

I'm going to celebrate my birthday at Gina K Designs!!! Yep, that's right. I'm going to Wisconsin and on my way home... which IS my birthday date... I'm stopping at Gina K's.

NOW who wants to shop at Gina K's and have ME pay for it and send it to them FREE!???

I'm giving away some BLOG CANDY!!! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me what would be YOUR favorite Birthday Gift! I will go to Gina K's on my birthday (Aug. 17th) and get you whatever stamp set you desire from Gina K Designs ($24.95 or less) and have the gals at Gina's send it off to you! PLUS... when I get home... I will add even more goodies to the BLOG CANDY and send that along as well!! The entries will end on Friday, August 15th at 8:00 PM and I will randomly chose a winner on August 17th!! Good luck!!

I hope you had a nice cool, relaxing day and maybe even had a birthday to celebrate this summer.

How wonderful of you to think of all of us on your birthday. I do love GKD as well! I have a Nov birthday as well and I would have to say I love the simple time at home. My Mom always let us pick our favorite dish and she made our Birthday dinner. It was some of my favorite times.

It's a good life!

LOVE your card with all the bright ribbon, I used to LOVE going through the sprinkler too (but we didn't have a pool so it was the ONLY refreshing option!)

Happy birthday early! I love the ribbons on the card - so bright and cheery! Your blog candy is fantastic! I can't get my hopes up for winning so I won't decide on a set yet. This is really a cool idea for your birthday. Not sure what would be the best birthday present - world peace - no, that is for a beauty pagent. I did love all my St. Paddy's Day birthday parties though. The one where my dad picked out this lttle bracelet with shamrocks on it and green stones is priceless though and I still wear it. My dad was not a big shopper so I wonder where he picked it up so long ago. Whatever....I am starting to blab on... Can't wait to see your new cards and stuff. You will have to tell us all about her store etc. Have a great vacation!

you are sooo lucky to have a summer birthday!! My birthday is the beginning of March... and living in Atlantic Canada that means it is definately snowing AND it is usually the week of or weekend surrounding march break (this is a week holiday from schools here) so even if it wasn't a total snowstorm cancelling any party that might be planned but none of my friends could ever make it anyways since parents often take this week off and go away for vacation with their kids.

My son's birthday (he is 7 months now) is January 4 so not sure what we'll do for him since not only is it dead winter but sooo close to Christmas. UUGH

Anyways... enough rambling!!
I love Gina's stamp sets and already own quite a few but would love to get my hands on the new set by Melanie Inspiration Mosaic. Have fun on your shopping trip!!! Good luck NOT buying everything in the store!! ;)

Betty Benton said...

Happy Birthday, Tina!! It's been a joy to get to know you and it's fun to see your name pop up on stampTV and to get your blog each day (cause I know I'm going to smile!) Be sure to take your camera so we can see all the folks you meet at Gina's store! Does Gina know that her store is a "tourist attraction"???? One of my birthday gifts this year will be Melanie's Inspiration Mosaic but I'll have to wait till October (sad face). Hope your day has been filled with beauty and happiness!

Happy Birthday! That is so cool that you get to go to Gina K's and what awesome blog candy! I would love to be able to pick out a Gina K set for my birthday. If I won I would pick Melanie's The Best Things in Life because you can never have too many words.

Happy Birthday! I love the ribbon background on your card. How cute!! My favorite birthday gift would be for my DH to plan a date for us without me having to do any of the work (i.e. calling my friends to get them to babysit). It wouldn't matter what we did just the jester would be nice. Oh well I still love him. ;) Have a great time at Gina's store! I wish I could go but it's a little far of a drive for me!

Great Card Tina, and Happy Birthday! I love the way you used the ribbon. I spent my summer days(in Florida)just like the kids on the front of your card. Hope your visit to Gina K is wonderful. My birthday is in December and I would love to have any of the new stamp sets from Gina K. I really like Inspiration Mosaic, and Timeless Treasures. Elegant Post, and Are we There Yet are wonderful as well. I just finished my 18 year job; homeschooling my son, who is now in college (Praise the Lord), and now my new job is to put all those pictures into scrapbooks. Fun, and daunting at the same time. Thank you so much for a chance to win some blog candy.
