Play it again.... Steven????!!

Are you a music lover?  Do you like Blues or Jazz??  Well, I do! And I LOVE that my son decided to take saxophone lessons!!!  He's been a piano player for ten years and has played the clarinet for seven years so when he told me he wanted to be in Jazz Band at his high school last year, my husband and I were thrilled to go saxophone shopping! LOL But I admit, this year he's decided to play piano for Jazz Band and that's fine as well.  But I'm just happy he's continuing his sax lessons.  :-)

La La Land Crafts are some of my favorite images to color.  Not ONLY can you get adorable Saxophone Luka as a digi stamp, you can hop over to MarkerPOP! and get him in rubber as well!

I colored my Luka with Copic Sketch markers and mounted him to my card base using Pop Dots after cutting around him.  My musical paper is from the Carta Bella, "So Noted" paper pack.  I never miss an opportunity to buy a paper pack that has anything to do with music in it!!  My "vintaged" paper is from my older paper stash, sorry I can't remember the name.

I added some paper roses which I colored using some Heidi Swapp Color Shine "Mustard" and Mr. Huey's "Overdue Real Red".  These are some of my favorite mists for coloring flowers!! They dry nicely and are the perfect saturation every time!  A few rhinestones for "sax air" (ha!) was added behind my image as well as an SRM Sticker for the sentiment.

I created this card for one of my son's band directors, Mr. Stegemann, who, I admit, I give more than enough razzing to all school year long.  (I know, I know, those of you who know me can HARDLY believe I'd do such a thing, right? Bwahahaha! *wink*) Last week was "Teacher Appreciation Week" so I decided maybe... just maybe... poor ol' Stegemann deserved a bit of a thanks.  Last year I was part of the Band Boosters and this year my schedule just didn't allow for it.  I KNOW it takes a LOT of work, coordinating, and hours to get a marching band like ours to all the competitions, rehearsals and concerts all year long and I think Mr. Stegemann probably doesn't get near enough thanks for all he does.  Their other band director is Mr. Bartacheck and yes, I made him a little thank you as well.  I'll share that with you another day.  Together they are quite a team and through all the grumbling and whining and headaches, they make one hell of a band that our high school is VERY proud of!!  And yes, I'm biased!  It IS my alma mater as well.  Hee

I hope you find a little music in your heart that keeps you smiling and I hope that when you hear it you think of all the work and dedication the performer puts into it to get it just right for all to enjoy!

In OUR Family....

Today I wanted to share with you a multi-media canvas I created for my mom's birthday gift this year.  I've often seen these signs all over Pinterest and a few other places and I decided to write me own and add a little "personal touch" to it as well.

I started with a blank canvas and used strips of paper from various pieces I found in my stash.  I simply ripped them and added them to my canvas using Mod Podge. Easy peasy!  I added a few rub ons here and there and then I took our some of the awesome Heavy Duty Vellum from the Paper Temptress!!  Of course, mine is clear but there are many other colors available on the site as well.

I cannot begin to tell you how nice this is to work with.  First... it's not NEARLY as filmsy as a lot of other vellums I've used in the past.  Second... I printed on it using an inkjet printer!!!  OMGosh... I couldn't believe it worked!!  But as you can see... it came out fabulously!!!  I had tried printing on vellum using my laser printer and sadly the ink rubs off.  You would think it would be the other way around.  But nope, the inkjet printer won, hands down!!  

I tore the edges a bit and added some cute little Mini Magnolia images to it here and there and curled up the upper right and lower left corners of the paper using just my fingers.  With strategic placement, I used some Skor Tape to hold my vellum in place on my canvas!  Worked wonderfully!!

I love how the vellum is just the right translucency to allow for the designs of my papers to show throw and now to mute them to much either.  Perfect!  AND... to top it all off... my sweet little roses are also from the Paper Temptress.  I always buy white when I get most my flowers and these are perfect for adding any type of misting spray you have and they dry very quickly!!  Again, if you don't like messing with sprays and mists, the Paper Temptress also offers these flowers in colors too.  I LOVE these little flowers and I know I will be needing more soon!!  

I tied it all together with some of the awesome Turquoise Sheer Elegance ribbon with which mom can hang the plaque from. Ohhhh how I love this ribbon!! It's sheer but has tiny little fiberish threads where the sheer part is... it's not solid like most sheer ribbons are.  You have GOT to see this in real life... LOVE LOVE!!!

Needless to say, my mom LOVED the plaque and so did everyone else in the family.  And... I'm glad I stocked up on vellum because it seems I have a few more to make after sharing mom's with everyone at her party.  Hee  Oh well... when it's family, it's not a bad thing, right?

I'm a Soccer Mom!!!! Eeek....

Oh my.... I never thought I'd say those words.  Never.  And so it begins!!  My daughter has decided she will join soccer this Spring... (Uhhh IF it ever comes!).  I knew my son wasn't much of a "ball player" after his few short lived years of baseball.  He had a coach who made him, and ONLY him, do laps.  Though he was only 4, HE noticed and didn't like it.  The coach said he was the slowest on the team.  Well.. he was also the heaviest on the team.  But... as I "calmly" explained to the coach... "Babe Ruth didn't run fast either... h never had to!!".  Sad as well because although he DID run slow and was he heaviest... he was a switch hitter... he could bat left or right handed.  And the coach used that when he needed, but because he ran slow he was singled out.  This mom didn't like that and neither did he.  He refused to play ball ever again after that.  So... never did I suspect my baby girl would want to get involved in any kind of "male dominated" sport.  But hey... equal rights is everywhere and certainly her generation never had to deal with that.  And... now... I'm a soccer mom!!! Ha!!

Of course, Soccer Marci was the perfect stamp from LaLa Land Crafts.  The DP I used was perfect because it had a wonderful "calendar" print which I used as the background.  It comes from the Teresa Collins pack, "Memories".  I colored my image with Copics and cut her out before mounting to the card.  My sweet butterflies and "Play", "Enjoy This"  adhesives are from Heidi Swapp.

My card was my creation for The Outlawz, Twisted Thursday challenge sample a few weeks back.  The twist was to make it a sports theme. I hope you stop by The Outlawz challenge site for a new challenge every day with prizes to be won!!!  Can't beat that!
